To begin with irrefutable truth we must start with the most basic
concept. The proof for this concept comes from the idea applied- we can
know nothing. We can be certain of nothing. And this idea is easily
found incorrect, we try to apply this to life and it comes up,
shorthanded and wanting. And so we discard this because there are things
we DO know, that cannot be argued otherwise, we have our first
irrefutable truth. "Cognito Ergo Sum", or I think therefore I am. All
knowledge and the idea of truth is based on this principle. The truth of
existence comes quite naturally, so much so that we do not begin to
question it until we absolutely need to. It is the first step on the
path to truth, and I do not find it terribly intriguing although if you
would be entertained I suggest you read Rene Descartes " Discourse on
method".
And of course this a very human truth, deep
rooted in our nature. Tied inexplicably to us, a confirmation of
existence. The first tool required to find, not just truth but greater
truth. As the nature of concrete truth is almost a spiritual experience.
we hunger for it, and the more often we feed the more often we need to.
The
next step is usually a confirmation of other people, a question that
involves the existence of others. depending on age and imagination you
will find that children will test this theory. It is quite
unmistakeably innocent and endearing. This idea that draws only on the proof of personal
existence. How often have you witnessed a child close his eyes and tell
you that you can't see them. They are "invisible", the only provable thing in the
universe. Other human beings cannot claim existence because it hasn't
been proven.
And there is absolutely no real world
proof that other people are not just figments of our imagination. I will
not try to prove it, but unless you accept it as truth I daresay you
will have trouble coping. It becomes an irrefutable truth- not because
it has a proof but because it must be true if we are to progress.
progress is the desire, because we know... we understand at some point
in our search for truth that what we have isn't all that there is. A
very core human principle. Ingrained in our natures- there must be more.
But
since progress is the goal, and leaving our last examination without
real evidence we start asking ourselves. What is truth? What is the
nature of it? how can we know it beyond our personal proof of existence?
how do we identify truth?
Are we to trust our senses? Soon we
realize that we cannot ignore our perception. This is in part because it
is the only thing we have. Our judgements come from the way we receive
reality. Since asking about the accuracy of our perception, at least at
this stage holds no value... we begin our journey for truth with only
basic preparations.
This is the beginning of either a new book or a chapter for it. Perhaps both.Perhaps not.
